Bella McPherson

Personal Trainer

I came to Exercise and Sport science after being diagnosed with a soft tissue/ hyper-mobility disorder and seeing the drastic improvement strength training and clinical Pilates made in my life. This is now my 8th year in the sporting/health industry. I spent the last 2 years working in a strength and conditioning clinic in Geelong, Australia. I worked with a mix of clientele, mainly focusing on pre-surgery strength training, rehabilitation post-surgery, chronic disease management, & women’s health (training during pregnancy and postpartum).

Prior to starting my clinical career & during my time at university, I worked as a swimming coach (4 years) and as a dryland strength and conditioning coach for State development, State, National, and Paralympic swimmers (1 year) in Melbourne.

I am so lucky to have had experience with such a varying range of clientele. Through my different roles my biggest accomplishments have been:

  • Helping a little boy with autism conquer his fear of swimming, join a competitive swimming squad & complete his first Triathlon.
  • Working as part of a team when one of our Paralympic swimmers broke a world record at the world Championships in Singapore 2018.
  • Assisting a client regain control of her left arm after being diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder.
Training Philosophy:

I believe in connecting into your body, and building a strong foundation (core and postural muscles). My speciality has always been within correcting muscular imbalances and strengthening the core to ensure you are getting the most out of your movement and we are making your exercises as functional and effective as possible.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Sport & Exercise Science, Major in Exercise Physiology
  • Certification in Personal Health and Wellness Coaching
  • Certification in Clinical Pilates - Mat & Reformer
  • Educated/specialized in Women's Health
I'm currently training for...

I am currently focused on continuing my own rehabilitation journey, and my management of my chronic condition.

My most proud training or athletic accomplishment is...

My two main sports were swimming and kickboxing. In swimming I broke a couple of records at a local and district level and made it to the state championships a couple of times. Throughout my time kickboxing, I was graded up to a black belt and got to compete over in Thailand. However, I would say my biggest accomplishment has been in my own rehabilitation, I have been able to effectively retrain and gain control and strength in my muscles to the point where my condition rarely impacts me and my health.
