My movement training began with dance over 47 years ago. Following a dance career, including opportunities with a variety of modern dance companies, I found myself teaching dance, which included a period of teaching in the dance department at the University of Calgary.
Although I’ve worked in many different fields, from plumber to commercial spot choreographer, I found my true calling when I became a certified Pilates instructor 21 years ago. My most recent certification has been in the Franklin Method, which has had a profound effect on my pedagogical approach.
As bipeds (two legged walkers), we have evolved to move in a certain way. By adhering to our evolutionary design, we discover true movement efficiency, both for the purpose of achieving our full performance capabilities and achieving a structurally durable, healthy body.
Movement has always been a primary means of expression for me and has given me a way to give to others. Now, at age 67, in some ways, I find I’m forging a deeper connection with my body, ways that better enable me to understand and impart the role that our neurology plays in helping us to experience those deeper connections.
